Jennifer K. Bukowsky
As a criminal defense attorney, Jennifer Bukowsky has the privilege of defending individuals from the government and protecting our Constitution on a daily basis. Jennifer and her team are devoted to protecting each client’s rights, records, and freedom. Jennifer knows that no two cases or clients are exactly alike. That is why she and her team develop an individualized strategy in building the defense for each client.
Jennifer has handled over 1250 criminal cases. Her extensive trial experience includes acquittals in a wide range of cases from offenses such as DWI and driving while revoked to more serious cases such as sexual assault and murder. Further, in many other cases Jennifer’s hard work in building a client’s defense has resulted in the prosecution dismissing the charges prior to trial. And Jennifer has obtained rulings in favor of her clients where the police have obtained evidence in violation of a client’s constitutional rights.
Jennifer attended law school at the University of Missouri- Columbia. She graduated with honors in the top of her class and received Order of the Coif. During law school, Jennifer served on the Missouri Law Review, in which she published two articles. Jennifer won first place in the Mock Trial competition and was awarded “Top Ten Oralist” in moot court competition first year. Jennifer received numerous awards for academic performance including the Wallace Walter prize for being ranked #1 in her law school class after first year as well as eight other awards for receiving the highest grade in various courses. Prior to law school, Jennifer obtained her CPA and worked as an auditor for a large accounting firm after graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a masters and a bachelors in accounting.
After law school, Jennifer clerked for Judge Mary R. Russell and the Missouri Supreme Court. She spent several years as an assistant public defender prior to opening her own law firm across from the Boone County Courthouse in downtown Columbia, Missouri.
Jennifer is currently the Vice President of the Boone County Bar Association. She previously served for three years as chair of the Criminal Law Committee. Jennifer is a regular guest on “The Gary Nolan Show” on 93.9 The Eagle on Thursdays from 11-12. She was awarded the Missouri Bar’s YLS Pro Bono Publico award in 2013. She serves on the boards of directors of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Heart of Missouri United Way. Jennifer was appointed to and serves on the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ State Legislative Affairs Committee. Jennifer also was appointed and served on the Missouri Bar’s Criminal Code Revision Subcommittee for a couple of years before the committee completed the revision of the criminal code. Jennifer was appointed to and currently serves as “council member” to the Criminal Law Committee of the Missouri Bar. And Jennifer has been invited to testify before the Judiciary Committees of both the Missouri House and the Missouri Senate on legislation affecting criminal law and procedure.
Jennifer believes that no person should be judged solely by a single incident. Jennifer and her team take the time to gather information about each individual client to be able to present a more complete picture of the client as a person. Often this information has a positive impact on the disposition of the case.
If you have been accused of a crime, time is of the essence. The government may be developing further evidence to use against you right now. And evidence that could be used to your benefit may be disappearing. Contact Jennifer Bukowsky as soon as possible so that she and her team can start building your defense.
